RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The cleanup continues in Virginia Beach from the crash of a Navy F/A-18D fighter jet.
That jet crashed into apartment buildings and damaged at least 40 units. No one was killed and only a handful were injured, but many of the people in this community were left with nothing.
Monday the Navy will start offering compensation checks to those families and neighbors who were involved. Payments could start at just over $2,000. This money would cover for the basics like food, clothes and somewhere to live.
Some people have already been able to return to pick up their vehicles. The fire department says it will also allow them into safe areas of the site so they can pick up some of their belongings.
In the meantime, crews will continue to sift through the debris to figure out what exactly caused the fighter jet to crash.
