Car accident closes road, knocks out power

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Police say a drunk driver is to blame for a car accident that closed the northbound side of Hermitage Road and knocked out power to the neighborhood.

It happened around 5:40 Sunday afternoon. Police say a man driving an Excursion hit a guard rail, then flipped his car several times.

In the process, they say he hit a light pole, a tree, and finally a Virginia power pole, knocking out power to the area.

The man was taken to VCU with non-life threatening injuries. Crews spent several hours working to restore power.

We're told the man was taken to VCU with non-life threatening injuries. Police also say  he has been charged with DUI.
