State Police investigating deadly crash in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Virginia State Police are investigating a deadly crash in Chesterfield, Sunday morning.

According to Sgt. Thomas Molnar with Virginia State Police, the driver was traveling northbound on Route 288, near Ironbridge Road, around 7:30 a.m.

The male driver of a white, Chevy sedan, went off the roadway and crashed into two trees in the median of the highway.

Troopers on scene tell NBC12 a witnesses described the driver as appearing to be falling asleep.

The driver died at the scene. Their identify is being withheld at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

Just before 10:00 a.m. Sunday, all lanes of Route 288 re-opened.
