RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - ESPN is kicking VCU and the rest of the CAA out of their late-season party.
The conference has been a prominent part of the Bracketbusters Challenge since its inception, but according to a CAA source, ESPN did not invite them to participate this upcoming season.
The CAA signed a television deal with NBC earlier this year.
The Bracketbusters weekend pits the top midmajor programs from all across the country against each other during the final month of the regular season, with many of the games airing on the ESPN family of networks.
In the past two seasons, VCU has picked up big wins in the Bracketbusters, over Wichita State in 2011, and over Northern Iowa in 2012.

VCU athletic director Ed McLaughin, and John Hardt, his counterpart at Richmond, both say many of the proposed rule changes will affect their programs very little, but could help them compete at a higher level by holding everybody to the same standards.
