RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Junie Donlavey owned a NASCAR Sprint Cup team for over half a century in Richmond. Wednesday he was back taking laps at Richmond International Raceway.
The Heritage Oaks Retirement Community (of which Junie is a resident) brought out several folks to ride around the track in their bus. About 20 of Junie's friends took laps with the NASCAR legend.
April 8 is Junie's birthday, and Heritage Oaks threw a birthday celebration (with birthday cake) to mark the occasion.
Rarely fielding a car without his familiar #90, he began fielding his team in 1950. For the next 53 years, Donlavey fielded cars in races with a long number of drivers. He closed his shop in 2006.
