Cat bites

HOPEWELL, VA (WWBT) - Generally cats are pretty gentle animals, but every once and a while they will attack.  When they do, it can be vicious!

According to Dr. Bonnie Lohrbach, a cat bite is scary because it can cause deep puncture wounds because cats have long slender teeth.

So don't let it happen. Don't leave a young child alone with a pet: don't try to separate fighting cats;  leave animals alone when they are eating.

Call your doctor. It is best to be seen and evaluated within 8 hrs of being bitten. Cat bites often cause infection.

When you have a cat bite, if an infection occurs, it can progress quickly. Call your doctor if you notice signs of infection.
