RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - All lanes of southbound interstate 95 have re-opened after a morning of VDOT repairs. Crews will soon also reopen the northbound lanes.
At the heights of repairs the southbound lanes saw the heaviest delays with five miles being backed up. The Shockoe Valley Bridge/I-64 west was also backed up a people are getting onto I-95 north.
This is following overnight construction to replace a section of the bridge over Laburnum Avenue.
Crews were unable to position cranes in the work zone and begin work on time last night due to safety concerns from the lightening storm. That likely contributed to the delay.
Drivers should expect major delays on I-95 through Richmond Thursday morning. V-DOT strongly encourages drivers to use alternate routes such as I-295, Route 288 and the Downtown Expressway.
