New charge for driver accused in deadly crash near VCU

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The man accused in the drunk driving crash that killed a VCU student will face a more serious manslaughter charge.

Varinder Chahal is facing an aggravated involuntary manslaughter charge.

According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, that charge means a maximum of 20 years in prison if found guilty.

Police tell us an officer witnessed Chahal drive through a red light, and struck another car, that killed 19 year-old VCU student, Carolina Perez.
