RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Governor McDonnell declared Tuesday as "Tornado Preparedness Day" in Virginia. On this first day of spring, the entire NBC12 First Warning Weather team is on your side to help you prepare for the upcoming storm season.

Three tornadoes have already touched down in Virginia this year. The first was a weak EF0 in Mathews County back in late February. In early March, two EF1 tornadoes caused damage and injured one person in Lee County.

If you'd like to stay in touch with our First Warning Weather team, here's how:

Once you're in a safe spot or after severe weather has passed, you can share your storm reports with us by sending a picture to Send It To 12.
