CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A scary night for one Chesterfield man who police say was robbed at gun point on his way home last night.
Residents on Handel Court off Belmont Road say police cars scoured their neighborhood for hours as they looked for three suspects.
For the most part, neighbors who live in these apartments off Handel Court say, they don't worry about crime.
"I think this neighborhood is very safe, I must commend Chesterfield Police for their very good job, They're always around moving around here, it's safe, we feel very safe," said neighbor, Nkemdilin Okoli.
But in the middle of the night Friday, police got an emergency call from a man who said he was just robbed near his home.
Police say the robbery happened near the Pocoshock Ridge apartments. It was 1 a.m. and the victim was walking home from a nearby convenience store.
Police say the man was ambushed by three people.
The victim claiming one of them had a gun and ordered him to empty his pockets.
Police say the suspects took cash and other items before the victim ran off. What happened next could have woken up neighbors.
According to detectives, the victim heard two gunshots as he was running from the scene. He wasn't hurt.
"Last night, I looked out my window and there were a bunch of cars, and I was hoping it was none of my family members," said neighbor Precious Cabbins.
Cops swarmed the area.
"They were driving around, stopping people, asking questions and stuff," said Cabbins.
Police are looking for two men and a woman.
