What Lincoln is Thinkin'- Not Exactly Shocking

There was a lot that felt familiar about VCU's win over Wichita State in Portland Thursday night.

- The took a dominating lead in the first half, and then gave it all away, just to hold on and win anyway.  This is exactly what happened against George Mason and Drexel in the CAA Tournament.  After the game Shaka Smart says that sort of thing builds character.  But holding on to a 15 point lead also builds character - and I'm sure he'd like to see his team do that the next time.

- Big Shot Brad has all ready arrived at the tournament.  The hero makes his first big bucket of this dance - the three-ball that made it a one point lead with 1:33 to go - a lead that VCU would not relinquish.

- When the Rams really needed a bucket, they turned to Darius Theus.  The guy who had the game-winning shots against Akron and William & Mary, plus provided the game-clinching shots in the CAA Title Game, came through with VCU up one with 20 seconds left.  His floater gave the Rams a three point lead, and the Shockers could never get the look at the game-tying shot.

- There is some magic back.  VCU winning on a black & blue painted court?  Yeah that feels pretty familiar.

So here we go again... Let's see if this winds up being just the start of another run.
