Details Revealed for Mineral Alan Jackson Concert

Posted: Updated:

MINERAL, VA (WWBT) - Some of the details are coming in about a free Alan Jackson concert in Mineral. The town won it shortly after the August earthquake.

We're told the concert will be May 20th at 8pm, for about 6,000 fans.

"I think it's awesome- it's great that he would even think about it, consider it. It's an awesome deal," said local resident Rebecca Sparks.

"I'll be there. I'll be in line," added local resident Amy Smith.

Jackson will perform in the parking lot of Louisa County High School, one of the areas most damaged by the August earthquake.

The concert is free, but officials say there will be a charge for some tickets to pay for things like security and to help rebuild.

"That will give us the opportunity to collect some money that can be used or will be used to go toward the rebuilding of the school," said town mayor, Pamela Harlowe.

Officials still don't know who will get those coveted tickets or how many will be free.  But, they do say Alan Jackson will feel right at home here.

"They seem to be excited about coming to a small town because Alan was excited, because he came from a small town," Harlowe said.

And for Mineral, still picking up the pieces, they say a little country music is just the ticket.

"I think it was a nice surprise. I think it's good for the town of Mineral and Louisa for a big moral booster," said Smith.

The location at the high school isn't officially a done deal yet.

It still needs approval from the Board of Supervisors. They'll need to grant a conditional use permit and the mayor says she'll ask for that Friday morning.
