RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A state wrestling champion now finds himself facing a felony drug charge.
Hopewell senior Cody Allala was arrested earlier this month.
Last month, the senior won an unprecedented fourth state championship, but now he finds himself in a battle with the law. Allala was arrested back on March 2, on a felony distribution of marijuana charge.
A Hopewell sheriff's deputy pulled over Allala's car as he drove with his brother, after seeing them light up what appeared to be a joint and discovering that the license plate belonged to another vehicle. He then discovered one ounce of marijuana and several small plastic bags in the car.
Head coach Herman Henderson tells us that the school is refraining from comment while the school and court system takes action.
Allala is free on bond, and also choosing not to comment when we attempted to reach him.
Neither of the brothers have a drivers license. Both have learners permits and charged with a learners permit violation and altering a license plate.
Cody Allala's hearing is scheduled for May 10.
