RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A house fire in Richmond is under investigation this morning.
The fire started in a home in the 2600 block of Fourth Avenue just after 2:00am.
When crews arrived the entire back of the house was on fire.
It took firefighters more than an hour to get it under control.
A family of eight were in the home, five adults and three children.
The homeowners daughter tells us that it was her niece that woke everyone up.
"She started waking everyone up and getting everyone out of the house. They left with no shoes, just their night clothes," said resident Trina Davis. "I was praying, running down the street praying that everyone was safe. I didn't want any tragedies. Thank God everyone is alright."
The Red Cross is assisting the family.
Investigators believe the fire started in a crawl space.
They are working to determine the cause.
