RG-3's grandmother in Richmond

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Several area Washington Redskins fans have their hopes set on "RG-3". That's Robert Griffin, III: arguably one of the best college quarterbacks in the country.

Griffin was a Heisman Trophy winner and Baylor University Graduate. He's also the man many speculate the Redskins will choose to lead their team come April's draft.

That's big news for his grandmother, Juley Marie Allen, who lives right here in Richmond. She couldn't be more proud of her "superstar" grandson.

"Don't miss a game," said Allen, who admits she wasn't a football fan until Robert started playing. "One time his game was at like 3:00am and I was looking at it knowing I had to go to work at 4."

The Heisman Trophy winner is expected to be a top draft pick- possibly even landing with the nearby Washington Redskins. That sounds great to Allen.

"Oh, I like to see him run and throw that ball! I like to see when he throw that ball. :44 Going over throwing it. I love it," said Allen.

She says she knew early on that Robert was something special.

"He had it in him. He had it in him ever since he was a little boy he was running and playing," said Allen. "Baseball, football, basketball, he loved sports." :28

She even showed our cameras pictures of a young Robert playing baseball and basketball.

Now, like the rest of the nation, she's anxious to find out where he'll end up.

"I am very excited. Very excited for him. Because this is history," said Allen.

Allen says when Robert does get assigned to a team, she plans to get a shirt and a hat. She says she didn't get to visit in person to see him play much at Baylor because he was so far away. She says DC would be mighty convenient.
