Community to discuss West End Walmart

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A proposed Walmart in the Charles Glen neighborhood has the community divided.

Some neighbors say they're concerned about having a retail store so close to their homes, but others say it's an opportunity to bring in something new and unique to the area.

Some neighbors say they understand the land behind their homes near Glenside Drive and Forest Ave is zoned for retail space, but they don't like the idea of big box stores opening practically in their back yards.

One of the developers told us this Walmart would be much different - smaller, more high-end, with a focus mainly on groceries. Neighbors hope the exterior of the building will also keep in line with the surrounding buildings.

Tonight residents plan to discuss the proposed development at Crestview Elementary on Charles St. at 7:00 p.m. The developer, Reynolds Properties, say nothing is set in stone just yet. But they did confirm Walmart is under contract to buy the property right now.
