RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Flags at the State Capitol were flown at half-staff Saturday to pay tribute to a Virginia soldier, killed in Afghanistan last month.
A funeral service for 22-year-old Sgt. Timothy Conrad was held in Roanoke Saturday. Conrad was one of two U.S. military police officers killed by an Afghan soldier February 23.
The killing came amid anti-American sentiment over the burning of Qurans at a U.S. military base.
The Army promoted Conrad from corporal to sergeant posthumously.
