FLUVANNA, VA (WWBT) - A former Virginia correctional officer has been arrested and charged with having a sexual relationship with an inmate.

According to the Fluvanna County Circuit Court, a Grand Jury indicted 40-year-old John Bland on charges of carnal knowledge of a prisoner by an officer.

Court documents state the offenses happened in June and July of 2011. At that time, Bland worked at the Fluvanna County Correctional Center for Women, but the Department of Corrections confirms with NBC12 that Bland is no longer an employee.

Bland was arrested Tuesday and taken directly to the Central Virginia Regional Jail. He is expected in court next Friday.
