RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The suspect in the deadly shooting outside the McGuire VA Medical Center earlier this month was back in court Wednesday.
Cornelius Hayes remains in federal custody after a preliminary hearing in his case. He currently faces a single charge for having a firearm as a convicted felon, however more serious charges are expected to be filed sometime in March.
Hayes was arrested in the shooting death of James Stephenson Lee in the veterans hospital parking lot on the morning of Feb. 22nd. Lee was shot twice, once in the eye and again in the head, according to police.
Hayes was arrested several miles south of the shooting scene near Route 10 and I-295 in Chesterfield more than an hour later.
