Dozens pay tribute to VCU student killed

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Dozens pay tribute to the VCU student killed in a Downtown Richmond crash that police say was caused by a drunk driver.

Many came out to the Cathedral of Sacred Heart to a prayer service to remember 19-year-old Carolina Perez. Perez was a Biology major and an active member at the Cathedral.

Police believe Varinder Chahal was driving his car on East Canal Street when he ran a red light and smashed into a Toyota with three VCU students in the car.

One of those students died, the others are recovering in the hospital.

Police charged Chahal with DUI and manslaughter.
