RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - We have a warning from the Henrico Health Department about a deadly form of strep.
This comes after a preschooler died from the unusual form of the infection. We are learning more about who the little boy is.
His name is Kingston Ponce.
The boy was just four years-old when he died Saturday from what the Henrico County Health Department calls an isolated case of strep.
Kingston went to Kids in Discovery Preschool in the West End.
His aunt tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch that when the little boy didn't feel well, his mother took him to the doctor. That doctor ran some tests and sent him home.
She says he lost consciousness Saturday. His father performed CPR until paramedics got there. He was then taken to St. Mary's Hospital where he died.
County health leaders sent a letter to parents telling them what happened.
That letter states Kingston had an invasive strep that spread to his brain.
There is a funeral mass for Kingston. It's Thursday morning at 10:00 at St. Michael Catholic Church.
That's at 4491 Springfield Road in Henrico.
The health department is waiting on the medical examiner to officially say how the boy died.
