RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - L.C. Bird was up to the task Wednesday, getting a huge win over region power Highland Springs, and the Skyhawks are headed back to the Central Region semifinals.
Bird blew out Highland Springs on its home court 78-58, ending the Springers season, and advancing to play Petersburg tomorrow. The Crimson Wave destroyed Thomas Jefferson 78-46, and have won their two games in the region playoffs by a combined 63 points.
On the other side of the bracket, Henrico took care of Meadowbrook 93-80, and John Marshall took care of Hopewell 90-71. The Justices are the only team to beat the Warriors all season, and they'll face off Friday at the Siegel Center. The four teams playing in the state semifinals have a combined five losses.
On the girl's side, there will be two teams from the Dominion district in the Region semifinals. The district champion, Monacan beat up Varina 85-65 to advance to the semifinals Thursday to play Meadowbrook. The Monarchs beat Hermitage 69-59 Wednesday night.
On the other side of the bracket, Highland Springs beat L.C. Bird 62-49. The lone upset from Wednesday night came from Cosby. The Titans won in Ashland, topping the Colonial District winner Patrick Henry 51-41. The Skyhawks and Patriots will play Friday at 6pm at the Siegel Center.
