Blacksburg, VA (WWBT)- Virginia and Virginia Tech have both been in their fair share of close games this season, so it was only fitting that Tuesday's game between the two would go down to the wire.
Mike Scott scored 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead Virginia to a 61-59 win over Virginia Tech at Cassell Coliseum. The Hokies would open up a nine point lead in the first half, but see that lead dwindle to three by halftime. The second half would see UVa open up an eight point lead late in the half, but have to hold off a charging Tech squad down the stretch.
Both of the teams' match-ups this year have been two point games, with the rivals splitting the match-ups. Virginia saw this game go down to the wire, despite shooting nearly 60 percent from the floor.
In addition to Scott's solid performance, Jontel Evans scored 13 points and dished out five assists, while Sammy Zeglinski also dropped 13 points and grabbed six boards. Erick Green scored 19 points and was the only Virginia Tech player in double figures.
The Cavaliers are back in action on Saturday when they host North Carolina, while Virginia Tech will travel to Duke on Saturday as well.
