Spider swimmers aim for 10th conference title in last 11 years

Richmond, VA (WWBT)- Sports fans have seen dynasties before, but the Richmond Spiders swim team may be giving a whole new meaning to the term.  The Spiders will depart for Buffalo on Tuesday for the Atlantic 10 championship meet and look to continue an impressive string of dominance.

Richmond will be looking to win its tenth conference championship in the last eleven seasons, and sixth in the seven year Spider career of head coach Matt Barany.  The lone loss came in 2010, when Fordham nipped Richmond for the title.  The Spiders feature three Olympic Trials qualifiers on their team and 20 swimmers who are focused and confident heading into the meet, but only thinking about this week's task and not the decade of success that has preceded them.

Barany has continued a culture of winning in the Spiders' swimming program.  A Midlothian native and graduate of Clover Hill High School, Barany returned to the Richmond area to lead the Spiders in May of 2005 and is a four time A-10 Coach of the Year.

The Atlantic 10 meet runs from Wednesday through Saturday.
