Earlier this week I attended the annual meeting of Venture Richmond in the newly renovated John Marshall Hotel. Just being in the once dead John Marshall is a testament to what can be done when the mind and the will is set in motion!
Mayor Dwight Jones and the chair of Venture Richmond, Robert Woltz, painted a picture of the Richmond many of us have come to love. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Richmond is a city on the move. Whether we are talking about the arts, neighborhood revitalization, sports, restaurants, entertainment, philanthropy, business or education, Richmond appears to be a city that has grown up quite a bit, but it is poised to do more.
A lot of these accomplishments and growth have been lost on many of us because we don't act like tourists in our own city. When was the last time you went to the city? I know that going to the city means many things to many people, but to me it's the equivalent of living in the NY area and only going to Manhattan to work.
Richmond, now nationally known as the RVA, is alive and vibrant! The meeting was packed with volunteers and decision makers who have given their very best effort to help give the greater Richmond community what they have been asking for. Now they need all of us to make it all come to life. Visit the RVA. It's our brand. Use it in all that you do when you talk about this city and this great region. If you tweet about Richmond, use the #RVA.
