DINWIDDIE, VA (WWBT) - A Dinwiddie County man faces a dozen charges after an overnight standoff that lasted nearly six hours.
36-year-old James E. Taylor is charged with eight counts of attempted capital murder, one count of abduction, one count of manufacturing marijuana, one count of child endangerment, and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Taylor is being held at the Dinwiddie County Jail with no bond.
State Police say it all started as a domestic violence call. Dinwiddie police were called out to a house in the 15000 block of Boydton Plank Road around 11:30 Thursday night.
When a Dinwiddie sergeant got there he saw a man and woman in the front yard. Some sort of struggle happened between the sergeant and the man. That man then ran back into the house. More officers were called for back up. State Police got there because a teen was inside the house too.
Police say the man shot at a State Police vehicle. No one was hit. Negotiators were also called out to try to get the man to get out of the house. The standoff lasted for several hours. Just after 5:00 this morning, police say a team went inside the house and arrested the man.
The woman involved in the incident was taken to a hospital for minor injuries. Detectives are trying to figure out if the teen was held against his will. The man's name isn't being released just yet. But a long list of charges are expected.
