VDOT currently meets project goals and deadlines

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - For the first time in a year, VDOT has met its construction and maintenance deadlines!

Governor Bob McDonnell's office says VDOT met the goal for the period of October through December 2011 — a first since 2010.

VDOT had 340 maintenance and construction projects due for completion during the period and completed 262 of them both on time and within budget.

    A woman has died, after police say she was struck by a van in Richmond. Police say the woman was walking across the 1100 block of Azalea Avenue around 3 p.m. Saturday, when she was struck by a van turning left off Seminary Avenue. The driver of that van stayed on the scene. Police say the woman was already dead when they got to the scene. The driver is not facing charges at this time. The investigation continues, as police work to notify the victim's family.

    An Amherst County Sheriff's deputy is recovering, after being shot in the head during a traffic stop Friday night. That's according to WSLS, our sister station in Roanoke. Officials say the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Friday, at the Monroe Post Office. The Amherst County Sheriff's Office says the passenger in the vehicle showed a handgun, and shot one of the deputy's in the head. Officials say another deputy then shot the suspect.
