HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - There's a big meeting Tuesday night on Henrico's school budget.
The price of a public education could start costing jobs if school leaders don't come up with a way to pay a multi-million dollar debt.
Henrico County schools leaders say they need to make budget cuts across the board.
They have a plan — but they also want to hear from the community. Either way, some positions could be at risk.
The schools systems has a long term plan to make up for the more than $26 million budget shortage.
Some initiatives included cutting positions by not hiring new staff when others retire or move on.
In order to reduce further costs, school leaders have also talked about reducing teacher retirement and school bus transportation.
Teachers and parents are invited to the school budget input session. It will be at the New Bridge School at 5915 Nine Mile Road in Henrico. It starts at 5:00 p.m.
Roughly 50 positions could be cut through attrition. But there are no plans for layoffs.
First, the school board must approve the budget proposals.
