Woman survives vicious dog attack

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, VA (WWBT) – A woman survives a vicious dog attack in front of her home.

"All of a sudden the dog just jumps up in my face and takes half my face off," said 70-year-old Nancy Setchel.

Setchel was hanging out on her front porch with her neighbor and his dog.

"I reached up and I said oh my God, my face is gone, call 9-1-1," she said.

It's been almost 2 weeks since the attack and Setchel's face is healing very well, but the scars will be permanent.

The dog is still tethered nearby, just about a football field away.

"I don't even want to come out this door, I come out here and look, make sure he's over there and leave it like that," she said.

The dog's owner and neighbor, is actually her brother. Setchel says she can't believe her brother won't give the dog up and also doesn't understand why Animal Control won't come take it away.

She claims authorities mandated the dog be tethered for 10 days and that was it.

"I want the dog killed, taken off this property. I don't care what they do with him so as he's not back in this end of Prince George County."

NBC12 tried reaching out to Prince George County Animal Control but they didn't return our calls in time.

We did speak briefly with the dog's owner tonight, but he told me he didn't want to discuss what happened.
