Richmond Councilman's residency in question

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A Richmond City Councilman is on the defensive after questions are raised about where he lives.

Some are saying Councilman Doug Conner actually lives in Chesterfield.

Councilman Conner admits he hasn't been spending enough time at his home in the city's ninth district. Despite the questions about where he lives, the registrar of voters says there's nothing it can do right now.

Conner has a home on Marshall Pointe Trail in Chesterfield and one on Germain Road in Richmond.

According to the Times-Dispatch, he's legally registered at his Richmond home. Conner says his wife stays at their Chesterfield home.

An investigation showed him leaving that house early in the morning and only stopping at his Richmond home to pick up mail.

Although the councilman admits to not being there often, he says he's staying there now.

The registrar of voters says an investigation is only launched when three qualified city voters testify in writing that Conner doesn't live at the home in his district. That hasn't happened.

Conner is up for re-election this year.
