HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Two people were rescued and 11 people are displaced in a fire at the Nottingham Green Apartments off Quioccasin and Pemberton Roads.
It was just after 2:30 p.m., the flames raged as smoke clouds made anything above the first floor, hard to see.
It was an intense moment for the families who had to evacuate, especially the Pradhan family. They lived next door to the apartment that caught fire.
It was difficult to watch, they expressed.
"Like really scared, nervous," said Chandra Manger.
The family ran out of the apartment in a hurry and now worry they can't salvage what's most important for them and the kids.
"Yeah, documents, clothes, school supplies, their children need to go back to school tomorrow, clothes, everything," said Manger.
They pointed to their unit. Immigrants from Nepal, they were extra worried they may have lost some important documents.
"Our passports, like social security, insurance papers, so many documents are lying inside the apartment," Dik Pradhan said.
Family friend Brenda Glover rushed over to get help for the family.
"It's going to be very hard, luckily they do have a large family in these apartments, and other than that, it would be difficult with the language barrier to go out and make due," said Brenda Glover.
For now they'll wait, until the fire marshal gives them the ok to go back in and salvage what they can.
A total of four units were damaged. Those displaced did get help from the American Red Cross today. No one suffered any serious injuries in the fire.
