Man goes to court Wednesday for bringing gun to RIC

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A court case involving a man accused of bringing a loaded gun to Richmond International Airport begins Wednesday.

NBC12 spoke to 42-year-old Chris Shackleford in the court house earlier this year, and he says it was an honest mistake — that he forgot to take the gun out of his bag when he was traveling through the Richmond airport on a business trip.

TSA agents say they found a loaded 45-caliber Ruger in his carry-on luggage over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Surveillance video shows his reaction when TSA agents pulled him aside and asked him about the gun.

Shackleford said he was actually driving to Tennessee for a work trip when he was re-routed last minute to Colorado through the Richmond airport.

He said he didn't even realized the gun was in there before it was too late.

Right now, he faces two complaints from the court for having a concealed weapon in his bag.

We'll bring you updates as they are made available.
