Pfizer recalls one million packets of birth control

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - One million packets of birth control pills are being recalled in the United States because they might not prevent pregnancy.

Women are being told to speak to their doctor because the tablets might not work. The pharmaceutical company Pfizer says a "packaging error" meant the doses were not correct.

It says the tablets did not pose any health dangers, but there was a risk of "unintended pregnancy".

Pfizer is advising women affected to use non-hormonal forms of contraception immediately.

The tablets involved in the recall are Lo/ovral-28 tablets.

Women affected have been advised to tell their doctor and return the tablets to their pharmacy.
