Richmond, VA (WWBT)- VCU men's basketball has won seven games in a row and is 18-5 on the season. As the regular season winds down next month, the Rams will once again find themselves in the national spotlight.
Shaka Smart's team will host Northern Iowa to kickoff the Bracketbuster weekend in a nationally televised game on February 17. The match-up will be televised on ESPN2 and will tip off at 7:00 pm. Northern Iowa is 14-9 and has already topped a CAA foe in Old Dominion earlier this season.
These two teams both became infamous in Lawrence, Kansas, as they have each knocked Kansas out of the NCAA Tournament in the last two years. 2010 saw Northern Iowa take down the Jayhawks in the second round, while VCU triumphed over Kansas in the 2011 Elite Eight. Both UNI and the Rams received an ESPY for "Biggest Upset" in recognition of their respective wins over the Jayhawks.
All 12 CAA schools will take part in the tenth annual BracketBusters event, though only VCU and ODU will be televised.
