MECHANICSVILLE, VA (WWBT) - Friends & family in Hanover will gather to remember Caroline and Madison King at 6:30 tonight. The twin 3-year-old girls were murdered by their father in their own home over the weekend...two in a string of 5 murders rocking Hanover County in just 6 weeks.
The support keeps pouring in for Madison and Caroline King. Late Tuesday afternoon -- a mom and her two children showed up at the home and tied balloons to the swing sets that Caroline and Madison just loved.
An outpouring of support from a community in shock. In all -- five murders in six weeks. A six week period that's been unlike any other for Fay Brown. She's called this county home for 40 years.
"It's such sadness, such an unnecessary sadness in all the cases," she said.
Tragedies that have taken the lives of two teens and two little girls, plus another woman, is difficult.
"A real tragedy that's hard to comprehend that this kind of thing is happening," Fay added.
She remembers Hanover County as just a quaint area, devoid of violence. But as more people come and live here, she knows crime has no boundaries.
"Sad things, but I hope this isn't going to be ongoing. I hope this is a onetime thing and we will see no more of it," she said.
Hundreds of people expected out here this evening. If you'd like to attend tonight's vigil, it begins at 6:30. It will be outside the home at 7986 Wynbrook Lane in Mechanicsville.
