CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Dr. Larry Benson is treating viral skin infections in high school wrestlers. This infection is passed from skin to skin contact among high school and collegiate wrestlers. It affects about 3-5% of all high school wrestlers.
You can prevent this problem by going above and beyond normal skin hygiene during the wrestling season; protect all skin abrasions.
For treatment, do oral anti-viral therapy, over five to seven days, to shorten the duration of the infection.
Any suspicious skin lesions should be treated by a physician familiar with the problem. Failure to treat may lead to individual disqualification at wrestling events.
