Man leads Henrico officers on high speed pursuit

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) – A 23-year-old man faces a long list of charges after leading police on a high speed chase late Saturday night.

Henrico Police tell us this all began as a routine traffic stop near Old Brook Road and Woodrow Avenue at 11:14 p.m. When the car in question failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated approximately two minutes later at 11:16.

The chase went from Camberlayne Avenue to I-95 South, then from I-64 West onto W. Broad Street.

At 11:31 p.m., the chase ended in the 4300 block of Pine Top Road. Police say the suspect fled the vehicle and a short foot pursuit began, but it only took officers about a minute to apprehend the man.

Jonathan C. Thomas is charged with eluding police, driving on a suspended license and possession with the intent to distribute cocaine. We're told he was also wanted on outstanding warrants for falsely identifying himself to a law enforcement officer and a previous disregard/eluding charge. Those outstanding warrants were also served.

Sgt. Thomas Molnar also informs us Virginia State Police assisted Henrico officers in the pursuit.
