UPDATE: Father, children found dead in Mechanicsville home

MECHANICSVILLE, VA (WWBT) - A death investigation continues in Mechanicsville after deputies removed three bodies from a home Saturday night.

They tell us a 40-year-old man and two 3-year-old girls were found dead in the residence at the 7900 block of Wynbrook Lane. Police have identified the 40-year-old as Robert King, father to the two 3-year-olds, identified as twins Caroline and Madison.

This investigation began as a call about a suspicious death at the home around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses tell us the deputies immediately started breaking the windows of the home when they arrived on scene. Throughout the night, deputies were seen going in and out of the house as well as knocking on doors and interviewing neighbors.

Neighbors said, they can't believe the two little girls who lived there are now gone.

"I just can't believe something like this could happen," said neighbor Elaine Snead. "you know it's just sad, really sad."

The Hanover County Sheriff's Office expressed similar thoughts when speaking to NBC12 Saturday night.

"This is as bad as it gets, and our deepest sympathies go out to the families and the friends that are affected by this tragedy," said Sgt. Chris Whitley.

Police are stressing they don't believe there are any suspects at large.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
