DINWIDDIE, VA (WWBT) -
Plans to close four treatment centers will mean thousands of lost jobs -- hundreds of them in the Dinwiddie area.
Southside Training Center is one of four homes for the intellectually disabled that Virginia will close as residents are moved into community-based settings.
We learned today that will mean the loss of 900 jobs as just that facility, which is scheduled to shut down by June 2014.
Three other centers will close over the next 10 years -- affecting more than 3,000 employees.
The closings and resident transitions are part of a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice.
