HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Family members spent the day, burying 23-year-old Dreshaun Travis. Last Wednesday he was found shot and killed in a West End apartment. Police say they've got a person of interest, but haven't charged him with the murder yet.
It was a quiet Wednesday night. Families were just getting to bed when shots rang out in on Quarter Creek Lane.
"It was a little bit scary because it's so uncommon here," said Amiee Loan.
Police say 23-year-old Dreshaun Travis was found dead. Shot and killed inside an apartment. It was just after 10 p.m.
Dreshaun's mother says he was her first born, a loving son and brother. He graduated from Henrico High School in 2007 and had plans to continue his education. But what happened the night of his death was nothing short of a drug deal gone bad.
Police say soon after they found Dreshaun's body, a call came in from this man, 22-year-old John Phifer - claiming he was just there and was in a fight at the same apartment was badly hurt.
Police later arrested him and charged him with possessing a weapon and felony to distribute marijuana.
Phifer is now a person of interest in Dreshaun's murder. And neighbors on Quarter Creek Lane are starting to shake off what happened.
"I think everybody's getting back to normal," said Loan. "It's very unfortunate, it's very unfortunate."
The investigation is still ongoing.
Henrico police are asking anyone who may have heard anything that night, or may have some information to call Crime Stoppers. That number is 780-1000.
