Henrico lawmaker discussing the "King's Dominion" tradition

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - How early should your child start school?

One Henrico lawmaker will be discussing his "King's Dominion School bill" January 26 in the General Assembly.

Henrico democrat Joe Morrisey has introduced a bill to allow school districts to decide how early they can start their school year. Under the current law, or "King's Dominion" tradition, public schools in Virginia must start the day after Labor Day.

Republican governor Bob McDonnell also called for an end to the "King's Dominion Law" during his State of the State address earlier this month.

At Thursday's meeting, Morrisey will discuss more on the status of his house bill.
