VCU student assaulted Friday night

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Virginia Commonwealth University issued an alert Friday night after a student was assaulted outside a restaurant near the university's Monroe Park campus.

This all happened just before 10:00 p.m. at the intersection of Laurel and Grace Street.

The victim wasn't seriously hurt, but anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the VCU Police Department at 828-1234.

In compliance with the provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus crime Statistics Act of 1988 Virginia Commonwealth University is giving notice of an assault. VCU Police report that at approximately 9:49 p.m., a student leaving Panera Bread near Virginia Commonwealth University was assaulted at the intersection of Laurel and Grace Streets by assailants associated with the nearby Club Xscape. The victim suffered minor injuries. There is no ongoing threat. Students are asked to be aware of their surroundings, report suspicious activity to police and use the campus escort service.
