Chesterfield man killed in overnight crash

SALISBURY, N.C. (WWBT) - A Chesterfield man was killed in a tractor-trailer accident Wednesday morning on Interstate 85 in North Carolina, according to media reports.

The driver of the UPS freight truck killed in the crash was Gary Darnell Wilkerson of Chesterfield, reports our sister station WBTV in Charlotte, NC.

UPS Freight Spokesman Ira Rosenfeld told the Salisbury Post Wilkerson was completing the first part of a routine trip from Richmond to Charlotte. After arriving, he was set to return with a shipment to Richmond.

Both outlets report Wilkerson flipped the truck over a bridge while driving I-85 overnight. It appears he was not wearing a seat belt. Rosenfeld called Wilkerson "a veteran driver" with a clean driving record.
