James River gets wild win over Huguenot in girls hoops

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Huguenot may have the best girls basketball player in the district, but she finished one shot short on Tuesday night.

James River outlasted the Falcons 53-50, in a game that featured five lead changes in the last three minutes.  Daisha Brown had a three pointer to tie as the buzzer sounded, but it hit the back rim.

This was after Brown had a great duel with Kelley Scott of the Rapids. The Falcons had a 46-45 lead with three minutes to go, and over the next two minutes, Scott and Brown traded baskets until a Scott deuce with just over a minute to go put James River up 51-50. James River hit a pair of free throws and held on for the victory.

Brown scored 25 points.  She came in averaging well over 30, and has had a pair of 40 point games this year.

Huguenot coach Bo Jones Jr. was back on the bench for the Falcons. He was rushed to the hospital with heart palpitations on Saturday due to stress.  Huguenot had to cancel its participation in a tournament in Highland Springs this weekend.
