PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) – We now know the identity of the man killed in Petersburg's first homicide of the year.
Around 7:30 p.m. Friday, police were called to the 700 block of Halifax Street for a report of a fight. When they arrived on scene, police found 52-year-old Timothy Byrd suffering from obvious signs of trauma.
Byrd was transported to Southside Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police have arrested a 16-year-old suspect who is currently being held at the Crater Juvenile Detention Center awaiting a court appearance.
The investigation is ongoing. If you saw anything, you're asked to call Petersburg Police at 732-4222.
