Vigil for missing VCU student

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Friends and family are praying that a missing VCU student will return safely. They will get together for a prayer vigil Tuesday, January 10.

Police say Ian Burnet disappeared after taking a trip to New York City after Christmas and his family has not seen or heard from him since before New Year's Eve.

The 22-year-old VCU junior took a bus up to New York City with his roommate the day after Christmas. No one has heard or seen from him since December 30 and investigators say he hasn't used his cell phone or credit cards since then either.

The New Kent High School grad was last seen near 139th and Riverside Avenue in New York City's Harlem district. New York police are searching shelters and people are posting missing person fliers up there.

Hundreds of people have also joined a Facebook group in hopes of finding the young man.

Tuesday's vigil is at seven p.m. in the parking lot of the Active Life Fitness Center, located on Aspengraf Lane in New Kent County. The vigil is open to the public.
