Richmond, VA (WWBT)- Fontel Mines spent his entire high school and college playing career in Virginia and now his coaching career brings him back to his hometown.
Mines has joined Danny Rocco's staff at Richmond as the wide receivers coach. A native of Richmond, Mines played his high school football at Hermitage for coach Patrick Kane. Following his career with the Panthers, he moved onto the University of Virginia, where he played wide receiver for Al Groh and the Cavaliers. He graduated from UVa in 2007 and was signed by the Chicago Bears as a non-drafted rookie free agent, where he caught on as a tight end. Mines spent three years with the Bears before his career ended due to injuries.
In 2010, Mines returned to Hermitage to coach the wide receivers and in 2011 coached wide receivers and tight ends at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
