Henrico Police bust prostitution ring

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) – A 15-year-old caught up in a prostitution sting in Henrico County! Police made the discovery during a recent prostitution bust. Three people from Ohio are now facing charges tonight.

Police say they've been working to crack down on prostitution-- but they caught these alleged criminals when a tipster called in to warn them about some suspicious activity.

At motels and hotels across the county, they have been taking action- prostitution stings have brought in a number of alleged criminals. This time though, police got a little help.

The call came in around 3 in the afternoon on the 10,000 block of West Broad Street. Police say it was reported there was suspicious activity in 2 rooms. When they got there, they found 4 people. One of them, a 15-year-old girl later discovered to be a runaway from Ohio.

These three people have been charged in connection to prostitution. Calvin Winbush Senior faces charges for taking money related to prostitution. Sabrina Holloway was charged with prostitution, among other things. Sonora Armstrong faces a list of charges- including the alleged abduction of a person for the purpose of prostitution and taking indecent liberties with a child.

Many we spoke to, who live in the area say they're disheartened, but not surprised.

"People are doing just about anything to make ends meet and if that's the way they can do it, then I'm not surprised that they're going to those extremes," said Chris Stefanac who lives near West Broad Street.

"Henrico's crime rate I think is influenced a lot by the city of Richmond. It seems to be getting worse every day. So, to hear that there's prostitution in this area is not surprising at all," said resident Robert Holmes.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected. They add that they have seen incidents of prostitution everywhere- they are concerned, and working hard to inhibit it.
