Colon cancer and screening

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Dr. Keith Espiritu is getting ahead of colon cancer.

Typically, there are no symptoms of colon cancer. When symptoms do occur, it is usually too late.

Colon cancer screening usually requires a colonoscopy. The doctor can snag masses that will turn to cancer --- this can cure it.

Everyone should get screened at age 50.

Those that are at higher risk may want to get screened earlier; African Americans and if you have a family history of colon cancer.
