NEW KENT, VA (WWBT) - An investigation is underway after a hunter was shot Saturday afternoon in New Kent County.
We're told it happened just after 2:00 p.m. when a 33-year-old man shot a 34-year-old man in the same hunting party. At this time, the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries says it appears hunting dogs ran a deer into the path of the victim. The man who fired apparently didn't realize the victim was nearby.
Shots were fired three times. The victim was struck by buckshot from one of those shots. He was injured in the upper left arm, the chest, and under his chin.
EMS workers treated the man at Route 60 near Bottom's Bridge, a short distance from the scene of the shooting. The victim was then taken to VCU Medical Center for further treatment. There's no official word on his condition at this time.
